OF the twenty Egyptian texts printed in the following pages, nine are taken from monuments inscribed in the hieroglyphic character, and eleven are transcripts into hieroglyphics from hieratic texts; the most ancient belongs to the period of the Vlth dynasty, about B. C. 3500, and the most modem to the Ptolemaic period, about B.
