Edition of Professor Spalding s English Literature, the Publishers have pleasure in announcing that the whole work has undergone thorough and careful revision. The chapters on the Language, and those on our Early Literature, have been brought into harmony with the results of recent philological and historical investigations. The later chapters, treating of the present century, have been revised and extended so as to bring the record of events down to the present time. A few explanatory notes have been added in an A ppendix, with the view of removing the difficulties which recondite allusions and illustrations are apt to cast in the path of the young student. It is hoped that the additions thus made will tend to increase the value of the Work, not only as a Scholastic Text-B ook, but also as a popular Handbook for Private Students. JANUARY 1877.
