This is the story and riveting adventure of Daniel Olin Jones (1907-1986), afisherman, singer, and praying country church deacon who practiced an 'oletime religion that had a powerful impact on his family and the ruralcommunity in Northern Neck, Virginia. He overcame an impoverished earlylife, social and economic difficulties for a young Black man in the early1900s in a small southern town, through systematic hard work, discipline,and tremendous faith. Notwithstanding a seventh grade formal education,Deacon Jones engaged in a continuous course of self-study-books, magazines,newspapers, pamphlets, religious conferences, etc. that were availableduring that time. He became a highly respected and beloved prayer-warriorwho organized and spearheaded the Northern Neck Deacons Union in Virginia.
