Katherine Safford-Ramus is an associate professor of mathematics at Saint Peter's College. She holds a doctorate in Mathematics Education from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. Dr. Safford has been teaching mathematics at the tertiary level for 24 years beginning her career teaching introductory mathematics courses to adult students in evening courses at a community college. It was only when her schedule shifted to daytime classes that she became intrigued by the subtle and striking differences between traditional and adult students. Her current research interests center on the impact of student perspective on the learning/teaching processes and on the significance of social learning theories in the mathematics classroom.
