The inspiration for this book is the author's great love of the Green Hill beach area of Rhode Island, which borders on the Trustom Pond wildlife preserve. A familiar sight in the region is the many animals that populate the preserve, especially rabbits, but also commonly, deer, and swans that delight children and people of all ages. All the illustrations are of the Green Hill and Trustom Pond area, and have been painted by the author, who is also an artist.
