Matthew W. Gallagher, PhD is Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology at the Texas Institute for Measurement, Evaluation, and Statistics, University of Houston. He received his Ph.D. in clinical and quantitative psychology from the University of Kansas. His primary research interest is understanding how positive thinking promotes well-being and provides resilience to anxiety. Dr. Gallagher's research has won awards from the Association for Psychological Science and the Society for Multivariate Experimental Psychology. He is widely published and is a licensed psychologist. Shane J. Lopez, PhD was Research Director of the Don Clifton Strengths Institute, and Senior Scientist at Gallup. He received his doctorate in counseling psychology from the University of Kansas and was previously faculty at their Counseling Psychology Program. His research focused on developing and disseminating hope and strengths promotion programs in schools, examining the impact of hope on engagement and well-being across the lifespan. Dr. Lopez was also the architect of the Gallup Student Poll, a measure that has assessed the hope, engagement, and well-being of more than 5 million students. Dr. Lopez was a widely published author who won numerous awards for his contributions to the field. Dr. Lopez passed away in 2016.
