Inhaltsangabe

The book titled ""The Application of Statistical Methods to the Problems of Psychophysics"" is written by F.M. Urban. The book is a comprehensive guide to the use of statistical methods in the field of psychophysics. The author has provided a detailed explanation of various statistical methods that can be applied to solve the problems of psychophysics. The book is aimed at researchers, students, and practitioners who are interested in understanding the statistical methods used in psychophysics. The book covers a wide range of topics, including the theory of probability, the normal distribution, hypothesis testing, correlation and regression analysis, and analysis of variance. The author has also included several examples and case studies to illustrate the application of statistical methods in psychophysics. The book is divided into several chapters, each of which covers a specific topic. The first chapter provides an introduction to the field of psychophysics and explains the importance of statistical methods in this field. The subsequent chapters cover topics such as the measurement of sensation, scaling methods, signal detection theory, and psychophysical discrimination. Overall, the book is a valuable resource for anyone interested in applying statistical methods to solve problems in the field of psychophysics. The author has provided a clear and concise explanation of various statistical methods, making it easy for readers to understand and apply these methods in their research. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. The following study deals with the methods which serve for the determination of the threshold of difference. These methods can be easily adapted to the determination of the maximum and minimum stimulation, so that it seemed justified to refer in the title of the book to the problems of psychophysics in general. These problems are treated by such propositions of,the calculus of probabilities as apply to the results of observations of statistical numbers of relative frequency. The term statistical method has two slightly different meanings. The first refers to the method of collecting observations on a group of individuals or on one individual at different times. The data obtained in this way must be subjected to some kind of treatment and the term statistical method refers in its second meaning to every algorithm for the numerical evaluation of these data or to every definite method ly which conclusions can be drawn from them. One may say in general that a problem is treated statistically, if the data are collected with a view to determining certain numbers of frequency which serve as a basis for further deductions. Some of the ideas expounded in this book date back a considerable time. The considerations of the last chapter originated in the course of a study of some physical phenomena and they were followed up later on in connection with astudy of thelawof GomperzM akeham. Most-of the formulae of the third chapter have been known to me for several years, and the idea of a purely formal treatment of the results of psychological experiments came to me in the course of the experiments of Mr. Kobilecki, which were reported lately in the Psychologische Studien .T hese small ideas, however, would have remained undeveloped for a long time, had not Prof. Witmer brought to my knowledge an experimental arrangement which could be adapted to the purposes of this invest
