Reseña del editor

Thoreau spapers printed in The Dial, Emerson, then the editor, for some reason omitted. This will now first be given to the public. It is the intention of the publisher to make this volume acceptable alike to the general reader and the lover of choice books. A full-page etching by Sidney L. Smith and facsimiles of Thoreaus manuscript will appear as illustrations. The book is to be printed at the Merrymount Press, and great care will be given to the selection of type and its arrangement. The paper is made specially for the book in France, and is the same as that used by the I mprimerie Nationale, Paris, in the production of some of the books issued by the French Government for the recent Exposition; the type (a special fresh casting for this volume) is an imported Scotch modern-face, in use about 1840 Thoreau speriod. The aim is to produce a volume which shall be artistically beautiful, without undue display or the exploiting of novel features. A specimen page is shown on the following sheet. The Edition will be limited as follows: 600 copies on toned French hand-made paper at S3.00 net; 15 copies on Japanese vellum at $12.50 net. All Orders will be entered in the precise order of their receipt. CHARLES E. GOODSPEED, PUBLISHER, Ncmber 5A Park Street, Boston, Massachusetts.
