Jean Macpherson Duffy is no stranger tocontroversy. The first registered nurse elected to the CaliforniaLegislature, she is known for her independence. Changing her political partywhile in office taught this feisty mother of five how to make tough decisionsin her struggle for better health care. Jean passed the nation's toughest drunk driving legislation and worked to form MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving). The Jean M. Duffy Award for Legislative Initiative in that field is awarded annually in many states. Jean brings the same focus and determination to breast cancer treatment.
