This book is not only a superb biography of Frances Baroness Bunsen (1791-1876), but also an interesting, rich, and detailed account of upper class life in 19th-Century Europe. Bunsen was an English woman of the upper-class; her husband, Baron Bunsen, was the Prussian ambassador to Papal court, and in this book Bunsen describes her life in Rome, amidst the aristocracy of the day. There are also accounts of London, Bern, Bonn, Heidelberg, etc.
