Sarah Elizabeth Forbush Downs (1843-1926) was a "dime novelist" from the United States whose work appeared under her own name, and under the pseudonyms "Mrs Georgie Sheldon" or "Mrs George Sheldon Downs", the latter both forms of her husband's name. Her writing career began with newspaper contributions in 1869, the year following her marriage, and she was later signed by Theodore Dreiser to write for his Smith's Magazine. Between 1880 and 1889 she serialised 47 romances for Street and Smith's New York Weekly. One of her later works, this novel was first published in 1911.
