Inhaltsangabe

A hardworking duck is rescued from life with a lazy farmer in this beautiful 25th anniversary board book edition of an award-winning classic.

A stunning 25th anniversary large board book edition of a picture book classic, this is the story of a hardworking duck, who has the very bad luck of living with a lazy farmer. The duck cooks and cleans, tends the fields and cares for all the other animals on the farm – and all while the famer lies in bed! Oh, how the duck has to work! That is, until the day the other animals decide to take action, and come to the rescue with a simple, but heroic plan... Highly commended for the Kate Greenaway Medal and the winner of a British Book Award, this tale of farmyard friendship and justice is as powerful and as charming as ever, and is from two of the most celebrated picture book creators of all time – Owl Babies author, Martin Waddell, and Bear Hunt illustrator, Helen Oxenbury.

Über die Autorinnen und Autoren

Martin Waddell is widely regarded as one of the finest contemporary writers of books for young people and he won the prestigious Hand Christian Anderson Award in 2004. He is also a twice winner of the Smarties Book Prize - for "Farmer Duck" and "Can't You Sleep, Little Bear?" - and he also won the Kurt Maschler Award for "The Park in the Dark" and the Best Books for Babies Award for "Rosie's Babies". Among his many other titles are the novels "The Haunting of Ellen"; "Tango's Baby"; "The Life and Loves of Zoë T. Curley"; "The Kidnapping of Suzie Q"; and his trilogy about the troubles in Northern Ireland: "Starry Night" (Winner of the Other Award, runner-up for the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize and short listed for the Young Observer Teenage Fiction Prize), "Frankie's Story" and "The Beat of the Drum".

Growing up in Ipswich, England, Helen Oxenbury loved nothing more than drawing. As a teenager, she entered art school and basked in the pleasure of drawing, and nothing but drawing, all day. During vacations she helped out at the Ipswich Repertory Theatre workshop, mixing paints for set designers. It was there that she decided her future lay in theatre design. Sets and scenery, not books, remained Helen's preoccupation for her early adult life as she embarked on careers in theatre, film, and TV. After marrying John Burningham, another of the world's most eminent children's book illustrators, and giving birth to their first child, at last she turned to illustrating children's books. Today, Helen is among the most popular and critically acclaimed illustrators of her time. Her numerous books for children include the Kate Greenaway Medal-winning Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll; Smarties Book Prize-winning Farmer Duck by Martin Waddell; We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen; as well as her classic board books for babies.
