The greatest difficulty in acquiring a foreign lan guage, and particularly the German, is undoubtedly that of knowing how to speak and to answer with facility the questions put to us. When once this ditfi culty is conquered, a result that may be attained at the end of the first thirty-six lessons, the pupil will have nothing to do but to perfect himself in declining and conjugating. He may then be said to have acquired the language; for he then will only have to remember the nomenclature of the words, and to account for the rules.

I have thought it advisable in the second part of the Method to give a recapitulation of all the parts of speech, especially for those persons who, not having sufficiently studied the grammar of their native tongue, will not be sorry, to find there a few simple explana tions on general grammar.
