Excerpt from Book-Auction Records<br/><br/>Milner was a Socialist Of the Owenite type, but must not be reckoned with those Socialist Atheists of his day whose intolerance of religion was noteworthy. In the year of Queen Victoria's accession he commenced his Cottage Library, with the worthy Object Of bringing within the reach Of the poorest the most attractive works in English literature. Selecting those which were free from copyright restrictions, and printing on a paper which was inexpensive, he was enabled to produce a volume which he could sell at a shilling, and in some cases.
