Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the Wedding Supper of the Lamb!” And he added, “These are the true words of God.” Revelation 19:9 NIV We have all sinned and despite all our efforts, we have all failed to save ourselves, remove the stains of our guilt, ease our burdens and heal our pain. Despite every effort by man, we have not defeated death. In fact, we cannot of ourselves forgive our own sins or take away our guilt and shame. Jesus Christ offers this invitation: “Come to me all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 NLT. That rest is Shabbat also known as the Sabbath. With Christ’s disciples accused as legally guilty of breaking the Sabbath, Christ defiantly challenges those Sabbatarians and all who are ignorant of the significance of the Sabbath while declaring his mission, passion and purpose. Christ asserted his authority and what God truly desires: “If you had known what these words mean, ‘I will have mercy not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent.” Matthew 12:7 NIV By declaring them innocent, he also clarified that his mission was clearing the guilt and forgiving sinners. His was a mission of reconciliation, Mercy and Grace from the very beginning as the Sabbath promotes. Christ affirmed his authority by aligning himself with the Sabbath in this bold claim. “For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.” Matthew 12:8 NIV This is God’s invitation for all to come and experience what many (including Sabbatarians) have been missing or misunderstood regarding the significance of the Sabbath in helping us to recognize and fully appreciated God’s great love for you. YOU ARE INVITED!
