hardcover. Zustand: Good. This is not the reprint but the original first ed., published by Robert Clarke & Co., Cincinnati, 1891 with pref. by Eugene F. Bliss. Frontis. drawing of Mrs. Appleton in profile, with holograph of her signature. 267 p., clean and unmarked except for gift inscription on front end page and calligraphic signature of former owner on back end page; binding firm; dark brown boards and gilt lettering are unfaded despite absence of d.j., but there is a bump at upper edge of front board and very slight rubbing at crown of spine. Lectures comprise: Alexander Pope; The Novel of the Eighteenth Century; The Kemble Family; The Trollope Family; Two French Female Novelists (Mademoiselle de Scudery and Madame de Lafayette); Madame de Maintenon; Louis XV and His Family; The Puritan Minister; Ohio; Cincinnati.
