Excerpt from The Normal Herald, Vol. 6: February, 1900
The success of the lecture cour>e is very gratifying. The patronage both of students and of the general public has been all that was anticipated.
The course was marked by the vari ety in entertainment and instruction which it provided, and also by the ability of the talent engaged. The illustrated lecture by Dr. Demotte was a graphic exposition of great though often unappreciated truths, and was enjoyed by a large audience. Maro, the Magician, gave a refined and delightfully mystifying entertain ment. The concert by The Slayton Jubilee Singers drew a crowded house, and encores were the order of the evening. The lecture by Dr. Mc Arthur was a rare literary treat and held the closest attention of his hearers from the introduction to the peroration. In Russia, the Great Bear of the North the Doctor has a most fascinating theme, and he handles it in a masterly manner. The entertainment by the Franz Wilczek Concert Company proved a fitting close to the course.
