Excerpt from Detroit Medical Journal, Vol. 3: October, 1903

It com plicated the work of locating the lesion but was finally attributed to the effect of a vascular meningitis which appeared as a perverse incident of the inflammation and abscess which appeared about a week after the gunshot wound occurred. The facial palsy was not noticed until the ah scess was opened; it improved somewhat, as did the hemiplegia, after that event.
