In planning the book, I believe I have everywhere been mindful of the problem of the earliest possible diagnosis, especially in the case of gastric, intestinal and renal neoplasms.

In the case histories, the symptoms appearing first have received sharp emphasis, and I considered it important to give detailed discussion to the diagnostic value of the subjective phenomena which so frequently are the forerunners of the Objective findings.
