Handbook to the Works of Dante (Classic Reprint) - Softcover

Inhaltsangabe

Explore Dante’s lyric world with a clear, scholarly guide that connects his life, love, and ideas to his major poems. This edition surveys Dante’s surviving lyric poetry, focusing on how the Canzoniere relates to the Vita Nuova and the Convivio, and explains how later works fit into his developing thought. It balances close reading with accessible context, helping readers see how Dante’s inner life and philosophy intersect in his writing.

This study frames the Canzoniere as a stage where Dante reveals traits not always shown in other works. It treats the poems as a medley that reflects both his ardor and his disciplined craft, while acknowledging the author’s own reining influences and the scope of his ambition.
