Vl11., ove si parla di Giovanni Elemosiniere è detto di un pe regrino che in varie forme vestito ebbe sem pre da quel patriarca l'elemosina che cerca va; quindi scoperto dal dispensatore avverti tone il patriarca volle che, di nuovo tornan do fosse come prima consolato e facendo que sto scherzo più volte il peregrino, e il patriar ca sempre volendo che limosina gli fosse fatta; finalmente vedendo il peregrino ostinato a mu tar figure e a chiedere e dettogli dal dispen sicre che era sempre quel dosso, il patriarca in vece d' irritarsi disse al dispensiere: Dagli due cotanti che prima; che forse questa è lo mio Cristo che in ispezie di povero m' è ve nuto a vicitare e a tentare. Se il Manni a creduto che il Boccaccio abbia tolto da questo argomento quello della sua Novella, non mi per che gli si possa dar.torto.
