Have been printed in a somewhat smaller type than that adopted for the body of the work, and for the same reason the solidus notation has been generally used in formulae occurring in the midst of ordinary matter. Here and there this latter practice has been inadvertently deviated from.

Volume II. Will contain an account of magnetic theory, units, and measurements; electro-magnetic theory and absolute measurement of currents, poten tials, and electric energy; the definitions and realise tion of the ohm and other units; the relations of electromagnetic and electrostatic units and the determination of practical applications of electricity, and specially related points of theory and measurement. In Volume II., on account of the great mass of matter included in the subjects here enumerated, the plan of smaller type will have to be adopted for descriptive and other details, as well as for mathematical theory.
