It is intended merely to clear up certain difficulties and to suggest certain parallels in a word, to restore something of that atmosphere which made these authors so popular in their own day. The shortness of the individual notes may prevent them from usurping the legitimate functions of the instructor, while at the same time it may encourage the student to read them.
