Inhaltsangabe

Excerpt from Modern American Locomotive Engines, Their Design, Construction and Management: A Practical Work for Practical Men

The following pages have been compiled at the cam est solicitation of a number of correspondents residing in different sections of the country, who have read the previous works of the writer's on steam engineering, evidently with both interest and profit. Many have asked: Why not get up a book on the locomotive, and complete the series? And this book is the result of those suggestions. There necessarily comes a time in the life of every locomotive engineer, particularly when old age and its attendant infirmities begin to make themselves felt, that he fain would resign the throttle valve, and leave the foot-board to younger and stronger men.
