It is only fair to say to the reader of the Mormon story in this volume that if he is reminded of Artemus Ward by a phrase which alludes to a number of hearts beating as one, he cannot excuse me upon the theory of unconscious plagiarism. I took the idea deliberately, because it exactly suited the place into which it was put.
