The apostle Paul, though junior to both these, knew this great doctrine as well as they, and delivers it almost in the same words with them, Rom. Viii. 7. The carnal mind is enmity against God. He makes the spirit of the world and the Spirit of God directly contrary the one to the other, 1 Cor. Ii. 12. Writing to the Gala tians, he makes the plain end of Christ's giving himself for us to be, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, Gal. I. 4. And vi. 14.
