Inhaltsangabe

Explore the science and stories of folklore from the 1886 Folk-Lore Journal.

This nineteenth-century collection gathers essays, notes, and translations that map how folklore is observed, classified, and explained. It covers methods for studying folk-lore, discussions on culture, history, language, and ethnography, and includes narratives such as a translated tale about witches in a long-standing tradition of storytelling.

  • Definitions and methods: how scholars define folk-lore and approach its study
  • Classification and culture: essays on organizing folk-lore within history and society
  • Language, etymology, and lore: the origin of names, proverbs, and folk terms
  • Tales and translations: folk-tale material like the translated Fight of the Witches and related legends
Ideal for readers of folklore, anthropology, and literary history who want a window into early scholarly approaches and the rich world of traditional narratives.
