Excerpt from Violin Talks

Lastly, may she not add a word with reference to children's concerts? Mr. Henschel was the first to formulate a plan for concerts for young people in London. He made the mistake of playing entire symphonies instead of detached movements of symphonies. The concerts were too lengthy for the young and on somewhat too severe lines. We look forward to children's concerts, especially in our large cities, in which the most beauti ful of the old minuets, gavottes, and other dance forms, shall be played; also when some of Mendelssohn's Songs without Words and Schubert's unparalleled melodies may be heard.
