If, conversely, we start with a higher note, e.g., thrice-accented e and try to find those easily understood notes which lie below c', then doubling the length of the string will have to take the place Of halving, i.e., if we take the length of e3 as I, the note which corresponds to twice the length of the string (2) will be the under-octave of e3, therefore e'; a' will correspond to three times the length, e' to four times, c' to five times, and a to six times the length of the string in notes.
