Having learned what they really do want, I have endeavoured to supply the required information in the simplest language consistent with scientific accuracy, ex plaining, as I proceed, the scientific terms that must be used, and that are not likely to be already understood.

As its title indicates, this work is limited to the chemical technology of the subject, for the simple reason that it is the branch that I have specially studied, both in theory and practice; the other element - via, the engineering technology - can only be treated satisfactorily by one who is similarly qualified as a scientific engineering specialist.
