This book is an exploration of 1 Peter 2:16 in which the author argues that, although Christians are by nature slaves to sin, they are set free through their faith in Jesus Christ and are then called to live as servants of God. The author examines the Christian's duty to use this freedom in the context of their relationship with God, their fellow man, and the powers and principles of evil. In doing so, the author exhorts believers to hold fast their faith in Christ, as the source of their freedom, and to walk in obedience to God's commands, recognizing that true liberty is found in serving Him.

Excerpt from Expository Discourses on the First Epistle of the Apostle Peter, Vol. 2 of 3
First, Christians are free in reference to God. They are the Lord's freemen.1 By this we do not mean that they are not under the strongest obligations to conform their minds and wills to the mind and will of God, and to regu late the whole of their temper and conduct according to the revelation of that mind and will contained in his word. They are not free in the sense of being without law to God; to be so would be the reverse of a privilege; they are under the law to Christ.2 Yet still in a very important sense they are free, both as to condition and character, in reference to God; and these two forms or species of freedom are closely connected, the latter being the result and manifestation of the former.
