It is not our aim to give technical knowledge of mechanical construction, nor any of its devices, but simply to give obvious facts pertaining to the govern ment of men, and what is required of men who are aspiring to become managers, and those who are now in that position.

This is not a book of methods, although a few methods will be found in it. Its aim is rather to present, in a brief and compact form, such principles as underlie and give form to all methods worthy of attention. As the title im plies, the book has been written with special te gard to the needs of foremen and those aspiring candidates for the foreman's office.
