In 1847 M. Boucher. De Perthes made known to the scientific world that the alluvium of the Somme contained Hints which had certainly been worked byman. This alluvium dated back to an epoch very remote, and these worked flints showed undeniably man's existence at that epoch the conclusions, how ever, oi M. Boucher de Perthes were long disputed, but after an impartial examination all doubt has been removed, and today they are universally admitted.
