But they are now no longer sealed depositories: their doors have been opened, and the are the source from whence the circumstances connected with the settlement and early history Of our country can be more perfectly understood and better known. A vast collection of documents, forming an almost unbroken series of historical papers, from the ear liest period of English discovery and settlement in America to the close of the war of the Revolution, are there preserved.
