In the preparation of this work, the author has pursued the same general plan adopted and sought to be carried out in preparing his preced ing work on the Law of Corporations namelv, to offer the profession the law as it exists to-day, devested of all obsolete doctrines, in a form readilv accessible a.nd free from fruitless disqui sitiou. The work is not a digest, nor is it a treatise, strictly speaking; but a plain, concise, and what the author believes to be an accurate, embodiment of the law relating to the title of which it treats as ascertained in the light of the best American and English authorities. Should the profession accord the work the same flatter ing reception extended to the author's previous efiorts in the same direction, he will feel that his continued labors in aid of the overworked lawyer have not been in vain.
