Saliva and serum are examined for enzyme-inhibitory capacity of antibody, and oral tissues are examined for tissue antibody response as determined by fluorescent antibody techniques. A total of three experiments have been completed in conventional and gnotobiotic rats. In each of these experiments, animals immunized with cea demonstrated lower dental caries scores and carious lesions than comparable sham-immunized animals.
