Par l'efl'et des diverses circonstances que je viens d eau mérer, je me tiouve en possession d'une liberté dont je ne jouissais pas, il y a dix ans, quant au plan de mon ouvrage. Aussi, sans rien changer quant au fond des idées, j'ai intro duit de nombreuses modifications dans la disposition du au jet et dans le choix des matériaux. 1 e n'ai plus été obligé de poursuivre des problèmes qui n'avaient pas un rapport di rect avec pu me homer à quelques générali tés sur la science de l'homme individuel qui tenait une si grande place dans ma première édition. J 'ai pu enfin don ner à mon travail la forme définitive qu'il doit conserver. Mais, si j'ai beaucoup retranché, j'ai également beaucoup ajouté,puisqu'uu lieu d'un volume, dont se composait la première publication, j'en donne deux maintenant. Cette seconde édition est donc, jusqu'à un certain point, un livre nouveau.
