12. For myself, thy unworthy servant, I will bless thee while I live, that in the decline of my days thou art giving me to enjoy the leisure and serenity of a peaceful retreat, where by pious meditation and fervent prayer, a ready submission to thy providence, and a growing complacency in thy works, the con stant exercise of good will toward men, and the elevating hope of the gospel, I may double my diligence to prepare for the inevitable hour. And when it shall arrive, grant, most merciful Father, through the mediation of my divine Master and only Savior, that I may obtain an easy passage from this to a happier region, and be admitted to worship thee in the temples of eternity. This matter hath lain heavy on my mmd, it being evident that a life less humble, less sim ple and plain, than that which Christ' leads his sheep into does necessarily require a support which pure wisdom does not. Provide for; hence there is no probability of our being a peculiar people, so zealous of good works as to have no fellowship with works of darkness' (titus 2: 14; Eph. While we have wants to sup ply which have their foundation in custom and do not come within the meaning of those ex pressions, your Heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things (matt. 6: These things which he beholds necessary for his people, he fails not to give them in his own way and time; but as his ways are above our ways, and his thoughts above our thoughts, so imaginary wants are different from these things which he knoweth that we have need of.
