Within the last few years have appeared many valuable works on Coordinate Geometry, involving a variety of new and elegant methods of Algebraical investigation. Several of these treatises are enriched with numerous incidental problems, and to the solution of problems of a miscellaneous character some of them are principally devoted. The tendency of even detached and desultory problems is no doubt to sharpen the intellect of the learner, and to give him a true conception of the signification of corresponding and more abstract proposi tions: the classification however of problems by some law of affinity is, in my opinion, calculated not only to produce the same result in a still higher degree, but also to qualify him by an enlarged comparison for becoming skilful and judicious in effecting his own solutions. In this conviction has originated the composition of this work.
