Table I shows the proportion of incomes between $500 and $2000 that should be expended for food. At present prices one would need to expend much ingenuity to provide an adequate food supply for five people for per day, and yet that means an income of $1000. The table also shows that an income of $2000 does not mean that twice as much is to be expended for food as with a $1000 income.
