Excerpt from Lord Kingsdown's Recollections of His Life at the Bar and in Parliament
In 1 815 Mr. Cooke obtained a silk gown, and it would have been of great import ance to me to have been called to the Bar at that time, as many of his clients were acquainted with me, and would probably have transferred to me the business which his promotion threw open. By some ac cident, however, my entry at Lincoln's Inn had been delayed longer than it should have been. Five years of probation were at that time necessary for any one who had not taken a degree at the University; and I was doomed to pass another long year before I could attain the honour of mounting a wig.
It is common, I believe, to consider youth and boyhood as the season of en12 Lord Kingsdown's Recollections.
