Joaquin Miller has written a new play, and its name is Mexico - a drama of Mexican and American life and love, The New York Sun says of it The heroine is a Mexican lady, the hero is an American soldier, the villain is a Mexi can general, and the minor figures are as varied as Mexican character. The scene is laid in Mexico, at the time of the ill-fated Maximilian. Its movement is rapid, its action in tense, and its incidents are full of surprise, romance, tragedy, triumph, patriotism, and fire.
Speaking of the dull times, a wicked Mobile man says that a few weeks ago a stranger arrived there and bought a bale of cotton, and a pleasant rumor was at once started that the cotton buyer had arrived, but it only proved to be a Chicago man with the ear - ache.
