Excerpt from The Private Devotions and Manual for the Sick of Launcelot Andrews, Bishop of Winchester
Having proceeded to the degree of Bachelor Of Arts, he was chosen, in 1576, a Fellow of his College, in preference to Mr. Dove, afterwards Bishop Of Peterborough. Mean while, Jesus College, Oxford, had been founded by Hugh Price, who also appointed Andrews without delay to one Of his Honorary Fellowships. AS Master Of Arts he now ap plied with signal success to the study Of theological litera ture; and, independent Of his reputation as a preacher and a casuist, the Lectures on the Commandments which he read, as catechist, to the undergraduates, procured him the admiration not only Of his own associates, but of the Uni versity at large.
