The object of this book is twofold: to give in simple Latin (1) an outline of the relations of the Roman Government with Britain, so far as they can be traced in the writings of ancient authors; (2) a short sketch of the career of the Caesars who are most worthy of attention among those who had dealings with Britain.

The text is gleaned and adapted from Suetonius, Dio Cassius and Tacitus, with occasional supple ments from other sources.
