Nearly fourteen years ago there was published a most interesting memoir of Lord Althorp, written by the late Sir Denis Le Marchant, formerly Clerk of the House of Commons, who had died more than a year before the publication of his book. Besides many other qualifications for the work, the author had the peculiar and inestimable advantage of having been the private secretary and intimate friend of the man whose life he described.
