Ever since Warren Colburn, following in the footsteps of Pestalozzi, published his Intellectual Arithmetic early in the last century, teachers have recognized the great value of oral work in number. Oral work is furnished in the text books in primary arithmetic, and in some cases in books for higher grades. Most text-books used in the last four years of the elementary school, however, need supplement ing in this important particular, and this reason prompted the authors to prepare this book.
