It was to meet the wants of teachers who believe in early and copious reading, that this book has been prepared. The selections are all sufficiently long to give the pupil time to get interested in them, and thus encourage him to read on his own account in advance of what is actually required by the instructor I have always found pupils willing to finish a piece, even if beyond the average length of the lessons, while they would have read with far less spirit if the additional pensum had been a new piece.
