There is perhaps no class of men so intimately in touch with the problem of the con servation of our coal supply as the operators of steam power plants. A vast amount of coal is consumed every year in the power plants of the world and power plant Operators should be able to do much towards the solu tion of this important problem.

It is the chief engineer. The man in responsible charge of the power plant, to whom we must look for economy in the use of fuel. He should be familiar with the latest and best work that has been done on the problem of combustion, and should instruct his firemen and others in his plant how to operate the furnaces at highest economy.
