The results we obtain are based on the notion of the direct product of two matrices [1] In Section 2. This notion is explained and we use it to prove Theorems I and II which show how the sum of direct products of matrices can be simplified. These results generalize theorems of D. I. Rutherford [2] and of Burnside [3.
