In response to the desire of a large number of Teachers, we reprint the Examination Papers suitable for the Annual Intermediate Examination, which have appeared in the numbers, for 1881, of Gage's "School Examiner and Student's Assistant."

The steadily increasing circulation of this monthly magazine, and the numerous letters received testifying to the great value of the questions in the various subjects required for the Examinations, plainly indicate that such a periodical is a most useful aid to both teacher and student.

The almost exhaustive nature of the questions on each subject brings the student into close acquaintance with every needful point; and the drill experienced in thinking and working out the answers is of incalculable practical benefit to those who wish to excel at written examinations.

When we state that the editors of this department of the School Examiner are Messrs. T. Kirkland, M. A., and W. Scott, B. A., we consider that it is a sufficient guarantee for the excellence and appropriateness of the work, as these gentlemen have earned a wide reputation as specialists in science and literature.

In consequence of numerous applications for the French Paper given at the Intermediate Examination, 1880, we reproduce it in this book.
